Greetings and Appreciation from the Phoenix Second Ward Bishopric1
We are happy for this opportunity to express our appreciation and thanks to you who have contributed toward the erection of the Phoenix Second Ward Chapel and Recreational Hall. Your whole hearted co-operation was necessary to complete this remarkable project, and you have never failed to respond in a sincere and loyal manner to assist us. It has been an inspiration to witness your unselfishness and devotion. A rare privilege has come to us through having directed your talents in the building of our Ward Home. Our task has been made a pleasure by your unifying support. The Phoenix Second Ward Chapel is a symbol of your faith in the Lord.
Not only do we appreciate the work performed by the faithful members of our Church during the construction of this building, but we desire to give honorable mention to the Bricklayers Union No. 3 of Arizona who under the direction of Ellis H. Johnson laid more than one hundred eighty-five thousand brick in the walls and contributed one-half of their time. This contribution is most extraordinary from the fact that only two of its membership of one hundred ten are members of the Church.
We are equally indebted to Mr. George G. Doyle, Jr. for his splendid contribution which consisted of all the labor in connection with the installation of the plumbing and the lawn sprinkling system.
We also desire to mention the following merchants and business houses which have made liberal contributions toward this structure: Halstead Lumber Company; Arizona Sash and Door; O. S. Stapley Company (hardware, paint, etc.); Schmidt-Hitchcock (sand and gravel); Dorris-Heyman Furniture Company (floor covering and stage drapery); Southwestern Manufacturing & Supply Co. (heating and cooling system); Phoenix Roofing Company; Wallapai Brick Company; Redewill Music Company (pianos); O. B. Marston Supply Co. (Church furniture); and the Williams Ornamental Iron Works.
We especially desire to convey to the ladies of our Ward, members of the Relief Society, Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Association, and Primary Officers, our appreciation and thanks for providing and serving refreshments to the crews that worked on the building at night.
To everyone who assisted in any way or manner in the construction and financing of our beautiful Church we extend our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks, with a sincere prayer that their sacrifice in the respect with be a continual source of joy and satisfaction, bringing to each and all manifold blessings from the Lord whom we worship and in whose service this building was erected.
May the spirit of peace and joy ever dwell within the wails of this Church for the good of all those who shall worship there. We trust and pray that you will never fail to attend to the spiritual development of your lives.
